Russell Brand has revealed his divorce from Katy Perry was difficult because there was ‘a lot of admin’.
The star split from the Teenage Dream singer last year after 14 months of marriage, but insisted the relationship ‘did work out in a way’.
Speaking on ITV1’s Lorraine show, he said: “You just have to have acceptance of things. She is a person that I love, but now this is a new time.”
The couple met at the MTV Video Music Awards in September 2009 and married in a lavish ceremony in India. But rumours of cracks in their relationship circulated right from the start as their respective careers meant they were rarely in the same country.
Russell said: “I suppose a divorce is difficult isn’t it, because of the admin. There’s a lot of admin.”
The funnyman, who is about to return to the big screen in Rock Of Ages, said he enjoyed working with his co-star Alec Baldwin, who he said was ‘lovely’.
He said: “He’s like sort of a big powerful, hairy, sexy uncle. Which in the wrong circumstances could be a terrible thing. But in the circumstances that I found myself in it was really lovely. And he’s really friendly, and he’s really clever, and really sweet and gave me wonderful advice.”
Russell will share a stage with the Dalai Lama when the Tibetan spiritual leader addresses thousands of young people in Manchester later this week.
Speaking earlier this week, he said: “I’ve never met the Dalai Lama and it’s a great honour to meet someone who has dedicated their life to spirituality and to what he believes in his national situation there.”
The funnyman has been a vocal supporter of the Tibetan cause, often peppering his old Radio 2 show with cries of ‘free Tibet’.
