Happy Valley is heading to new subscription service BritBox, which is currently offering the first 30 days free, then costing £5.99 a month
BritBox – the new streaming service from ITV and the BBC – will feature a string of classic TV shows when it launches later this year. And you can now sign up to the service!
ITV and the BBC previously announced that they’ve signed a deal to launch the new service towards the end of the year and that it would be “competitively priced at £5.99 per month in HD and across multiple screens and devices, which is less than other streaming services”.
They’ve also revealed plans to commission new shows “exclusively for BritBox”.
While the new service will have some way to go to get close in subscription numbers to rivals like Netflix and Amazon, ITV and the BBC hope that their huge archive of TV hits will attract subscribers.
So, what shows will be on BritBox?
Happy Valley, Gavin & Stacey, Broadchurch, Benidorm, The Office, Les Miserables, Gentleman Jack, Love Island and Victoria are all likely to be available from the launch date or very close to it.
Carolyn McCall, CEO of ITV, previously said: “The agreement to launch BritBox is a milestone moment. Subscription video on demand is increasingly popular with consumers who love being able to watch what they want when they want to watch it.
“They are also happy to pay for this ease of access to quality content and so BritBox is tapping into this, and a new revenue stream for UK public service broadcasters.
“ITV and BBC have made, and continue to make, the programmes that both reflect and shape British culture and creativity.
“We now look forward to working together to launch the largest collection of British boxsets ever – bringing the very best in past, present and future British programming and award-winning content to viewers all in one place.”
BBC Director General, Tony Hall, previously said that BritBox wasn’t just about past classics but also about exciting new shows.
“With a remit to be daring and different, many future classics will be commissioned and live on BritBox for the future. These are exciting times for people who love quality TV.
“Importantly, these shows will be truly British, showcasing our culture and telling distinctive stories. It’s what makes real British TV so special.
So, when does BritBox launch?
It’s yet to be officially announced the exact date the service will go live, but we will update this story when it’s announced.
