Brookside’s Dean Sullivan ‘wants to cross soaps’

Former Brookside actor Dean Sullivan has said he would love to revive his screen alter ego Jimmy Corkhill in another soap opera.

The actor played the loveable rogue for 18 years until the Channel 4 soap ended in 2003 – and told Inside Soap magazine he would love to play the part again.

“If I had a pound for every time someone mentioned Jimmy to me, I wouldn’t have to work again,” Dean said. “So I think people would love to see Jimmy back – maybe in a different situation though.

“I’d love him to prop up the bar in Corrie or pull a pint at the Queen Vic. It’s been talked about before – why can’t a soap icon cross into another soap?”

Although the real homes of Brookside Close, where the show was filmed, went on sale last year, Dean isn’t ruling out a revival for the soap, which would have been 30 years old in 2012.

“If the show was still running it would be a huge milestone,” he said.

“It was a massive part of my life. The last episode was such an emotional experience. I was the last person on the Close and did the speech that ended things.

“My enduring memory is adding the letter ‘d’ to the Brookside Close sign, so it read ‘Brookside Closed’.”
