The Capture star Callum Turner: ‘My family were all over Johnny Depp!’

The London-born actor remembers the moment his family descended upon Johnny Depp at a film premiere...

Prepare to enter a murky world of lies, betrayal and corruption in sinister new thriller The Capture, that shows what a dangerous weapon CCTV surveillance can be in the wrong hands!

Callum Turner plays British soldier Shaun Emery, who’s delighted when his conviction for murder in Afghanistan is overturned due to flawed video evidence in this tonight’s first episode at 9pm on BBC1.

Yet when troubling CCTV footage emerges of him kidnapping someone on the streets of London, he finds himself fighting for his freedom once again…

After a breakthrough performance in hit BBC series War & Peace back in 2016, Callum is starring in his first British TV lead and also had a part in recent Hollywood hit, Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald.

Callum Turner The Capture

The Capture kicks off tonight on BBC1

Starring opposite Johnny Depp in the wizarding film was a memorable moment for the London-born actor and for his family couldn’t wait to come on set and meet the American superstar at the premiere!

“They all ran up to Johnny asking him for photos,” he explains. “I was freaking out because I didn’t really speak to him on set, but he’s such a nice guy and was like ‘don’t worry about it!.’ My aunt always said she’d leave her husband for Johnny Depp so that was a worry, but I couldn’t not invite her!”

Callum stars opposite Holliday Grainger (Strike), who plays Rachel Carey, the detective investigating Shaun’s case, in this six-part thriller and it’s not the first time the pair has appeared on screen together…

“When I first started in acting nearly ten years ago I did a walk on part in The Borgias, which Holliday was brilliant in,” he explains. “She’s one of the best that we’ve got I think and I think she’s brilliant in this.”

The Capture begins on Tuesday 3rd September at 9pm on BBC1
