Carol and Richard teamed up on the classic show, which started on C4 in 1982
Carol Vorderman has revealed that she was paid three times more than Richard Whiteley when they famously worked together on Countdown.
As the gender pap gap row continues, the 57-year-old star, who built a fantastic on screen chemistry with Richard during their 23 years together on the C4 teatime favourite, revealed that the only time they ever clashed was over pay.
“The only heated debate Richard and I ever had was when he found out that I was being paid three times more than him,” she told Today FM.
She added: “The whole gender pay gap thing is not necessarily men versus women, there’s a lot of women against women.
“Trolling on Twitter – it’s not men having a go at women, it’s often women having a go at women, which I kind of think, “Where’s the sisterhood gone?” I’m glad it’s being discussed though and it is out in the open now.’
When Carol left Countdown in 2008 after 26 years, her manager revealed that the presenter felt she had to leave the C4 show after she was told to take a 90 per cent pay cut.
Richard, who hosted the first episode of Countdown with Carol in 1982, died aged 61 in 2005.
