Channel 4 to pore over the digital lives of students in Freshers

The Social Network told the story of the birth of Facebook on a US university campus, now Channel 4 is to offer an insight into how today’s students use social networking sites and digital technology as they follow their real and online lives in a ground-breaking documentary series, Freshers.

Twelve undergraduate were lent smartphones over the course of one term by the programme makers, who then combined their texts, blogs, tweets and posts with footage of their daily lives to present a never-seen-before multimedia insight into the student experience for the digital generation.

The results can be seen when the four-part Freshers arrives on Channel 4.
