Cheers star Kirstie Alley is set to travel back in time as a contestant on a new celebrity history show.

In Channel 4’s new reality series Time Crashers, celebrities will take on the gruelling challenge of living as one of the downtrodden masses in a range of bygone eras, from Tudor to medieval times.

Kirstie’s fellow contestants will be actor Keith Allen, Coronation Street star Charlie Condou, Olympic long-jumper Greg Rutherford, newsreader Louise Minchin, weightlifter Zoe Smith, presenter Fern Britton, designer Meg Matthews, former footballer Jermaine Jenas and comedian Chris Ramsey.

The 10 celebrities will be transported to six very different eras of British history (check out Kirstie in her old-fashioned outfit below) and spend a day immersed in each, living, working, eating and dressing as the lower class did, while attempting to follow orders and fulfil a task set by their superiors.

Sir Tony Robinson and archaeologist Dr Cassie Newland will host the show when it screens later this year and Channel 4’s factual commissioning department will be on hand to make sure the show is historically accurate.

But Time Crashers isn’t the only reality series on the way – the BBC has a new series called 24 Hours In The Past, in which celebrities take on a host of Victorian jobs.

Ann Widdecombe, Zoe Lucker, Tyger Drew-Honey, Alistair McGowan, Colin Jackson and Miquita Oliver will even spend a day in a workhouse.
