Cheryl Cole has spoken of how X Factor boss Simon Cowell begged her to return to the judges’ panel this year after the talent series struggled following her last appearance in 2010.
“There was a lot of grovelling to get me back once Simon was on board,” says Cheryl on this evening’s Graham Norton Show (BBC1). “It feels like I’ve never been away!”
But the singer revealed that her return wasn’t without its awkward moments, especially when she encountered fellow judge Louis Walsh.
“It’s a little bit frosty,” she told Graham, and when asked if things were a little bit off with the Irish judge, she responded, ‘They were never on!’
While speaking to Dan Wootton on Daybreak on Wednesday morning, Simon explained that he made a mistake when he left the show for America, but decided the only way he could return was with Cheryl by his side. Appearing alongside him, Cheryl said: “There’s only so much begging one can take. It’s not nice to see a grown man cry, so I finally succumbed!”
Cheryl will be returning to The X Factor panel along with Simon Cowell this autumn, with former Spice Girl Mel B also joining them.
X Factor bosses were eager to revamp the line-up after Gary Barlow, Nicole Sherzinger and Sharon Osbourne left the show last year with the series trailing BBC1’s Strictly Come Dancing in the Saturday night TV ratings.
Cheryl will be joined on Graham’s sofa this evening by Miami Vice legend Don Johnson, comedian John Bishop, Mr’s Brown’s Boys creator Brendan O’Carroll and Chrissie Hynde.
