Chris Evans used his Radio 2 show to taunt departing One Show host Adrian Chiles for quitting the BBC.

Chris, who replaces Adrian as the show’s Friday presenter, boasted that he could get rugby pals Matt Dawson and Austin Healey screen tests to co-host on other nights with Christine Bleakley.

When Matt said he would feel like “a warm up act” for Evans, the DJ quipped: “You are not the warm up act for me. That is what the other guy (Adrian) thought and look what happened to him.”

Adrian is thought to have left the BBC for ITV earlier this week in protest at losing the Friday slot to Chris.

And Chris’s remarks have not gone down well, according to The Mirror.

A BBC insider said: “This will not go unnoticed and Chris will have to explain himself. He is almost certain to get a dressing down where he will be reminded he has to be careful what he says on air, especially when referring to The One Show.

“He shouldn’t be seen criticising Adrian for leaving the BBC and shouldn’t give the impression he is extremely influential on a series he has not started on yet. It is hugely unprofessional – the kind of thing he used to do in his boozy days on Radio 1.”

A One Show source, who has worked with Adrian at the BBC for years, added: “Chris Evans should watch his mouth. Adrian is leaving as one of the most watched presenters in Britain, Chris hasn’t had a hit TV show since the 90s.

“Everyone at the BBC is stressing that Christine Bleakley has the big say on what happens, Chris seems to think it is him.”

A BBC spokesman tried to play down Chris remarks, saying: “Chris always comments on topics of the day.”

Adrian’s spokesman declined to comment – but he is thought to be annoyed by the remarks.
