Christine Bleakley is set to present a Stars In Their Eyes-style celebrity singing show for ITV1, according to the Sunday Mirror.
The paper reports that the Daybreak co-host is currently filming pilot episodes of the show – provisionally titled Guess The Star – at ITV’s Manchester Studios.
The programme will see celebrities dressing up as famous singers and performing their hits – with a panel of judges, which will reportedly include Louie Spence and Pauline Quirke, having to guess who is beneath the costumes and prosthetic make-up.
It will be similar in format to Stars In Their Eyes , the show in which members of the public – and also celebrities – impersonated their favourite singers.
And ITV bosses are said to be determined to make the show a success following the poor ratings of Daybreak – which Christine has co-presented with Adrian Chiles since it launched last autumn.
“When ITV signed Christine from the BBC they made it very clear she would be working on other projects,” an ITV source told the paper.
“You don’t pay someone £4million just to present a breakfast programme, especially one that is under-performing. The show is only in the development stage but ITV are hoping it will be the perfect platform for Christine to launch herself as a primetime entertainment presenter.
“The prosthetics people are absolutely brilliant and from what we’ve been told they make the celebs absolutely unrecognisable.”
Meanwhile the Sunday Mirror also reports that Daybreak producers are planning to give the show a makeover to include more hard-hitting news stories.
They have also hinted that Adrian Chiles’ future on the show is uncertain, although a spokesman for the show has denied this.
