Ex Coronation Street actor Andrew Hall, who played the soap’s Marc Selby, has died aged 65.

Andrew initially found fame as Russell Parkinson in the hugely successful BBC comedy Butterflies, in which he starred alongside Wendy Craig, Geoffrey Palmer and future Only Fools and Horses actor Nicholas Lyndhurst.

The actor, who also appeared in EastEnders, Casualty and Holby City, died on Monday after a short illness.

In a tweet, his management group InterTalent Rights said: “It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of our client and friend Andrew Hall who sadly passed away on Monday after a short illness.

“Andrew was loved by audiences for his many roles, most notably Butterflies, Coronation Street and more recently, Syfy’s Blood Drive.”

Andrew arrived in Corrie back in 2011 as Marc Selby, who became involved in a love triangle with Audrey Roberts (played by Sue Nicholls) and Claudia Colby (Rula Lenska).

At first, Marc was attracted to Claudia and the pair started dating. But Claudia soon became suspicious of his behaviour and she teamed up with Audrey to spy on him, only to discover Marc was a cross-dresser.

When Marc, whose female alter ego was Marcia, and Claudia later split, he eventually began a romantic relationship with Audrey.

The pair even moved in together at one point. And, wearing make-up, Marc had to do some quick-thinking one day when Gail walked in – he put his face in a gateaux!

However, it didn’t end well for Audrey and Marc and that was the end of the character’s spell on the cobbles.

Andrew Hall is survived by his wife Abigail, his mother Mabel, his children Kate and Josh, and his grandchildren Jasper and Maggie.
