Norris is apparently with Emily Bishop in Peru!

Coronation Street star Malcolm Hebden might be making a return to the cobbles next year as Norris Cole, one of his co-stars has hinted.

The 78-year-old actor has not been seen on Coronation Street since suffering a “silent” heart attack – which comes without the normal warning signs – last year.

However his co-star Patti Clare, who plays Mary Tyler, teased that Malcolm could be back as Norris Cole next year, which would delight fans.

Speaking on This Morning, Patti said: “Norris is in Peru with Emily [Bishop] at the moment. Mary speaks to him often on the phone. So, there’s a faint whisper that he might be back, maybe, next year… ”

It’s still to be officially confirmed if Malcolm will be back as Norris next year.

Meanwhile, Malcolm previously spoke to the Blackpool Gazette about his heart attack, praising the NHS medics who saved his life.

He told the paper: “I was informed by my doctor I had had at least one heart attack. I was sent to hospital, by emergency ambulance to Blackburn hospital and was there one night.

“While there I collapsed and was brought here to Blackpool Victoria – where I was operated on, in a procedure which was described by my surgeon as ‘ground-breaking’.

“The heart attack tore a hole in my heart, they operated and took a chance.”

The procedure saw Malcolm’s heart being “wallpapered” to repair the damage using tissue from a cow. Malcolm spent weeks in a coma before coming round “some time in January” and eventually being discharged in February.

Malcolm said his care was “brilliant” and added: “Fortunately I didn’t realise how bad it was; I was dying.”

During the interview, Malcolm also said his return to Corrie would depend on his recovery.

Coronation Street continues on ITV.
