Tragedy ahead, reveals Corrie star

Coronation Street star Jack P Shepherd has hinted that David Platt – or another member of the Platt family – could die in the New Year.

Soaps love some festive doom and gloom and there’s nothing like a death to really shake things up!

Now, Jack, who plays David Platt, has revealed that the Grim Reaper is likely to be at work on Corrie very early next year.

Speaking to the Daily Star Sunday, the hugely popular actor said: “This year I think someone dies at New Year.

“It might be someone to with the Platts, and no, it’s not David’s dog.”

Festive doom and gloom?

So, is David doomed? Or, might his mum Gail die to finish off what’s been a truly horrendous year for David? Or, might David be attending the funeral of his dad Martin Platt?

Gail’s ex husband made a comeback earlier this year when David – traumatised after his rape ordeal – paid him a visit. Might David be mourning Martin in the New Year?

Jack, who picked up a TV award last week, certainly won’t mind playing out more tragic scenes as he also revealed he loves the soap’s grittier storylines.

“I like the darker storylines. And of course it’s nice to get awards but it’s not something that I go for. I find it hard to take compliments. I didn’t win funniest male though did I? I was up for that the other year.

“Seriously though it’s great when Corrie is doing well. EastEnders dominated for years and then Emmerdale and now we are.”

Meanwhile, new Corrie boss Ian MacLeod recently promised us a massive Coronation Street Christmas. But he also said it wouldn’t be all doom and gloom on the cobbles.

“I wanted it to be a Christmassy Christmas, and there will be warmth and light-heartedness amongst the drama,” he revealed.

Coronation Street continues on ITV.
