Rita is putting the Christmas lights up, when everything goes wrong...
Coronation Street favourite Rita Sullivan could be killed when she’s trapped for days under a Christmas Tree.
The Sun claims the horror storyline will see Rita putting fairy lights up on a tree, only for her to fall and become wedged underneath the tree.
In a cruel twist, Rita will have already told the rest of the Street that she’s away for the holidays, so no one will coming looking for her. Could this mean Rita meets a tragic fate this Christmas?
An ITV source told the paper: “Dev puts up the Christmas tree for Rita but doesn’t have time to sort the fairy lights.
“She ends up putting the lights on herself but when switching them on she trips and falls, pulling the tree on top of her.”
With no one coming to rescue her, Rita is at risk of being crushed by the Christmas tree.
The story apparently is aimed to show how OAPs are at risk of spending Christmas alone, with the source saying to The Sun: “Spending Christmas alone is a scenario many OAPs may find themselves in a few weeks.”
Rita, played by Barbara Knox, has of course enjoyed her fair share of drama before on Coronation Street. One of her closest brushes with death and one of her most iconic times on the show came in 1989 when she was being tormented by evil Alan Bradley who seemed like he’d kill Rita, only for Bradley to be crushed to death by a tram.
Let’s hope Rita gets through this Christmas on Coronation Street in one piece…
Corrie continues on ITV.
