Peter and Carla could be set for a cosy Christmas...

Coronation Street fan favourites Carla Connor and Peter Barlow look set to rekindle their long on/off romance this Christmas.

Chris Gascoyne, who plays Peter in the hit ITV soap, has revealed that the pair are in for a “fabulous” New Year’s Eve, hinting that a reunion looks on the cards.

“We’re starting a really exciting and grown-up chapter which begins with quite an extravagant Christmas present from Carla to Peter. It’s unusual and initially he can’t work it out, but then… And there’s a fabulous New Year’s Eve for the two of them,” he told Acumen Magazine.

Coronation Street - Peter asks Carla if it’s true that she still has feelings for him...

Peter and Carla have been through so much, but could it all come good this Christmas in Coronation Street?

And Alison King, who plays Carla, said that the pair, who’ve endured a string of romantic hiccups, are constantly drawn to one another.

“Will it ever be truly over between Carla and Peter? If one of us dies, maybe. Something will always be there. Even if they’re with someone else or not, they’ve got a link that’s almost like family that pulls them together.”

Explaining the love between Peter and Carla, Chris added: “Carla understands Peter and I don’t think you get very many people in your life that give you unconditional love. I think it’s just that, really, that she genuinely does understand him. Even though they are not good for each other. Maybe they’re really similar.”

Peter isn’t the only Barlow set for a big Christmas. New Coronation Street boss Ian MacLeod revealed to us at a recent press event that Amy Barlow will play a big part this festive season.

“We have got great things coming up at Christmas for Amy Barlow,” he revealed.

We wonder what that could be…

Iain also promised that it is going to be a traditional Christmas in Corrie… “I wanted it to be a Christmassy Christmas, and there will be warmth and light-heartedness amongst the drama.”

Coronation Street continues on ITV.
