Watch out Audrey!

Coronation Street star Brian Capron has fondly recalled one of his most memorable lines during his reign of terror as murderer Richard Hillman.

The 71-year-old actor, who played Hillman between 2001 and 2003 , says he loved the dark humour of his character, who famously tried to drive his wife Gail Platt and her family to their doom but ended up drowning in a canal.

Speaking on Good Morning Britain, the Coronation Street legend said: “The thing about my storyline, apart from him being a family-loving man, which is something we worked on, there was a lot of dark humour around him.

“One of my favourite bits was when I was walking down the road and I was after Audrey and she goes, ‘Hello Richard.’ And I said: “Goodbye Audrey!.”

Brian believes that one of the reasons the storyline worked so well is that it was allowed to build slowly over time.

“It was just a lucky thing,” he said. “You can go into a soap and come out and nothing happens. It’s a confluence of circumstances. I was there when new producers came in and decided to go back to long burn storylines.”

Brian also talked fondly about the moment Richard waved goodbye to his first victim, Duggie Ferguson, played by John Bowe, who fell to his death after crashing through a bannister.

Laughing, Brian, who’s now in a new production of Doctor Dolittle, recalled: “He had a fantastic death and he did the stunt himself. He fell through a bannister. He’d done all this dodgy bannister work, so he killed himself in a way.

“I was just about to dial 999 and I thought, “Oh, I know where the money is in his safe. I won’t make that call just now.”

Hillman made a return from the dead of sorts earlier this year when conning psychic Rosemary told Gail she’d received a chilling message from her husband! Not surprisingly Gail was rather spooked!!
