Coronation Street star Katie McGlynn on ‘DOOMSDAY’ for Sinead Tinker

The knicker stitcher will soon learn whether her cancer treatment has worked

Coronation Street star Katie McGlynn has revealed that difficult days are ahead for her character Sinead Osbourne when she receives a letter, asking her to attend an MRI scan.

Knicker stitcher Sinead was diagnosed with cervical cancer last year, shortly after discovering she was pregnant. Worried for her unborn baby, she initially turned to homeopathic medicine as a potential “cure” before undergoing a conventional course of chemotherapy.

When her cancer failed to respond to the treatment, doctors delivered her unborn baby early, so that she could have a course of radiotherapy.

The young mum finished her treatment in April, and has since been able to enjoy happier times with husband Daniel and their son, Bertie. But she’s unaware of whether her cancer is in remission, and the MRI scan will be a reality check as to what kind of future lies ahead.

Baby Bertie has brought some much needed joy into Sinead’s life

Says Katie: “Sinead’s focus is her child, but there’s always that underlying worry of whether she has beaten the cancer or not. When she gets the letter about her scan, it’s like doomsday for her; it’s something she has to face.

“Daniel goes with her to the hospital, and they’re both terrified, but they don’t want to say anything because they’re trying to be strong for one other.”

Tabloid reports suggesting that Katie is leaving the cobbles have inevitably sparked speculation that Sinead will lose her cancer battle. Corrie bosses have refused to confirm or deny the reports and Katie, too, is staying tight-lipped. But she insists that whatever happens, Sinead is a fighter.

“Sinead has lost a lot of strength,” she adds, “but if the worst were to happen, she would definitely keep on fighting. She’s just thinking of her child. All she wants is to make sure he has a good life, and that will push her to do the best she can do.”

Coronation Street continues on ITV.
