Phew! Kym says Michelle Connor won’t be killed off
Coronation Street star Kym Marsh has revealed that the door has been left open for her to return as Michelle Connor after she departs the cobbles.
It was revealed earlier this year that the much-loved star would be leaving after playing Weatherfield’s Michelle for the last 13 years.
It led to fan fears that Michelle could be killed off, but Kym has revealed in a chat with OK! magazine that bosses are leaving the door open for a possible return.
Kym, 43, also spoke about why she’s decided now is the time to go.
“It’s going to be strange and there’s a little bit of nervousness there, but I’m ready for it,” she revealed.
“I want to try new things before I’m told old. My last day will be emotional, and I’ll cry my eyes out. It’s my decision to go, but they’re kindly leaving the door open and I’d like to think I’d go back one day.”
And Kym added that she’d like to take on a very different type of part.
“I really want to do something different now. I’d like to play a psychopath in a really dark drama. I want to stretch myself.”
Speaking to The Sun earlier this year, Kym revealed how she could never have foreseen being in Coronation Street for so long when she first joined as Michelle in 2006.
“When I was lucky enough to be offered four episodes I could never in my wildest dreams have thought I’d be here 13 years later.”
Speaking previously about Kym’s exit, Coronation Street executive producer John Whiston said: “Kym has done a fantastic job. She has brought incredible heart and humanity to some hugely important stories.
“We will be really sad to lose her when she goes but totally understand that, after dedicating herself to the show for so long, she now fancies trying something else.”
It’s still not been revealed yet exactly when Kym will be seen leaving the show as Michelle.
Coronation Street continues on ITV.
