Kym is set to take a break from the show after playing Michelle Connor for 13 years.
Coronation Street star Beverley Callard, who plays long-term cast member Liz MacDonald, had backed her daughter-in-law (of sorts) in the show Kym Marsh on her decision to leave the show after 13 years.
She told Digital Spy that Kym is “doing the right thing” by taking a break from the soap.
“I think she’s actually doing the right thing. I think she’ll have a really good future ahead of her,” Beverley said.
“She’s never done any other acting, apart from Coronation Street – so who can blame her?”
Michelle announced earlier this year that she plans to leave to “explore some other roles” earlier this year.
Beverley agrees that trying different methods of acting is important. “I would say to young actors, ‘You must go on stage as an actor’.
“I think having to only do Coronation Street – yeah, I think it’s a wonderful thing to be in, but I think to be an all-rounded actor is a necessity.”
Fans of Michelle Connor, don’t worry. Kym has reassured us that she will be back in Weatherfield- if in the distant future.
She revealed, “This isn’t the last you’ve heard of Michelle Connor – she’ll be back! I can’t wait to see what the writers have in store for the future.”
Michelle Connor has been an integral character on the show, playing the leading role in some of Coronation Street’s most powerful story lines.
Talking about her character’s portrayal of her heartbreak over her still born child, Kym said:
Kym said: “It is obviously a cause very close to my heart, having lost my beautiful Archie at 21 weeks and five days.
“In the end I felt it was an important story to tell in order to raise awareness of something which affects thousands of women every year.”
