I might as well have been muttering ‘Bah, humbug!’ to everyone this week. I’ve been a real grump.
I’ve not been able to find the festive spirit anywhere, and have been pushed over the edge by unexpected Secret Santa demands and the pressure to send seasonal cards.
But, this morning, that all changed. Not only was my neighbourhood coated in beautiful, sparkling, festive snow to brighten the spirits, but seasonal cheer has been injected into my local community by the result of a very important council meeting last night…
Yes, in Crystal Palace, where I live, our community is united by a mutual desire for a local cinema (read more about that here). The dream seemed within reach earlier this year, but was then shattered when a large, wealthy church swooped in and purchased the cinema building, and subsequently applied to the council for a church use licence.
Well, last night the council refused their application.
So our movie house dreams could still come true. Hurrah!
So, to mark this joyous occasion, I’ve selected a movie clip from the great Christmas movie Scrooge
Come back on Sunday (20th December) for more on movie versions of Dickens’ classic Christmas tale.
