Couch Potato’s Tuesday Teaser: Why was a scene omitted from Bridget Jones: The Edge of Reason?

Bridget Jones: The Edge of Reason, Renee Zellweger, Colin Firth

In the novel Bridget Jones: The Edge of Reason by Helen Fielding, neurotic journalist Bridget is smitten with the hunky actor who plays Mr Darcy in the 1995 BBC series Pride and Prejudice. She even gets to interview him for a newspaper article.

But this scene is missing from the film. Do you know why?

The reasons are of course obvious. As a brilliant movie in-joke, Bridget’s love interest Mark Darcy is played by Colin Firth – the very same hunky actor who plays the dashing Darcy in that infamous Jane Austen adaptation.

Fans of the franchise don’t miss out totally though. Renée Zellweger and Colin Firth did actually film a tongue-in-cheek version of the missing interview scene as a bit of fun for the film’s DVD release. What a treat!

Bridget Jones: The Edge of Reason is showing tonight – 17th May – on ITV2 at 10pm
