Simon Cowell has hired a secluded mansion worth around £3.5m for this year’s X Factor finalists – in a bid to avoid the chaos of last year.

The Sun reports that the mogul has splashed out a fortune on the seven-bedroom home in Borehamwood, Hertfordshire, which is on a private road and has electronic gates to keep fans out.

The move comes after fans besieged the finalists’ house in Golders Green, North London, in 2009, causing noise and traffic problems for local residents.

Grafitti was scribbled on the walls outside, while contestant Lloyd Daniels reportedly landed in trouble for ‘mooning’ out of a house window.

“We hope the contestants don’t make too much noise,” one local near the new house told the paper.

“We read about their wild parties last year and we don’t want any of that. This is a quiet area.”

Another neighbour added, “It’s a beautiful house. They should think themselves lucky.”

ITV staff have already started setting up cameras at the property for the 12 finalists.

Another double bill of X Factor shows this weekend will see the final 200 acts battle it out at boot camp.

Among those taking centre stage is controversial contestant Chloe Mafia – who is seen arriving late after going out the night before, and confessing that she has been out all night drinking.

“I’ve got the same make up on that I’ve had since yesterday morning,” she confesses on the show. “I just look disgusting.”

Sunday’s show will see Simon Cowell, Louis Walsh and Nicole Scherzinger – who stood in for Cheryl Cole at boot camp while she recovered from malaria – whittle the 200 hopefuls down to the final 32 who will move on to the next stage.
