Simon Cowell has confirmed that the future of The X Factor depends on how much ITV is willing to invest in the show next year.

The talent show judge is still in negotiations with ITV for the show in 2010 and admitted it was ‘difficult to say’ at present if the show would return.

Speaking at a press conference in London ahead of the show’s final at the weekend: “When we’re negotiating with a network, it’s not about salaries for the people on it, it’s how much money are you going to invest over a period of time.”

“The show has been very successful because ITV have invested a lot to make it better.”

He added: “There is genuine interest from the people who like the show to bring it back – but we have to make sure that, if we do bring it back, it’s going to be better than this year.”
