Cowell will axe US X Factor if a star’s not found

Simon Cowell has said he will pull the plug on US X Factor if he is unable to find the right calibre of star.

He said it was ‘all or nothing’ for the new show, which launches later this year co-hosted by Welsh presenter Steve Jones and former Pussycat Doll Nicole Scherzinger.

And if the US X Factor is not up to scratch, Simon would have no hesitation in wielding the axe.

Simon said: “I’ve made a decision: you know what, it’s all or nothing. If we can’t find a star or if the show’s useless, we’ll just call it a day.

“It’s got to be great, it’s got to be fun, you’ve got to find a star, otherwise truthfully it’s all been a waste of time – so no pressure.”

The line-up for the show was finalised over the weekend, with Paula Abdul completing the judging panel alongside Simon, Cheryl Cole and LA Reid.

Cowell admitted that former T4 host Steve’s involvement was decided at the ‘last second’.

“Stuff happens,” he said. “I think, you know, we had always wanted to do Nicole and we’ve got the two of them together, I think they’re going to look great.”

Simon also revealed he was delighted to be working with his former American Idol sparring partner Paula Abdul again.

“This show would never have been the same without Paula and I can’t believe I am saying this: I have missed her a lot, and I am thrilled she’s on the show.”
