Actor Daniel Day-Lewis gave a poetic speech as he accepted his award for best actor at the Academy Awards on Sunday night. Watch it here in full… Daniel, who has joint British-Irish citizenship, picked up the second best actor Oscar of his career for his performance in the drama There Will Be Blood, at the star-studded event held at the Kodak theatre in Hollywood. As his name was called, Daniel acknowledged his fellow best actor nominee George Clooney. The star collected his award from The Queen star Dame Helen Mirren and joked: “That’s the closest I’ll ever come to getting a knighthood so thank you.” On accepting his award, Daniel gave his “deepest thanks” to the Academy for “whacking me with the handsomest bludgeon in town”.
