ITV’s epic dramatisation of The Great Fire of London premieres on ITV on Thursday – and its star Daniel Mays says they torched the elaborate set in the last week!
Mrs Biggs star Daniel plays the writer Samuel Pepys, while Perdita Weeks plays his wife Elizabeth and both paid tribute to the elaborate set that was created for the four-part epic, including whole streets and a giant water tank for filming the River Thames scenes.
Perdita said: “The river set was extraordinary. A giant tank with huge buildings on the side of it and then one day I came back and it was all gone! It was all black!”
Daniel added: “They set the whole thing alight in the last week!
“I think it’s a great mixture of burning the streets for real and CGI… it’s seamless and that’s the key – if you don’t question it, then it’s a success.”
