Speculation is rife that Dannii Minogue may follow Cheryl Cole back to the X Factor judging panel in 2014.
According to The Sun on Sunday, Simon Cowell is hoping to lure both ladies back to the panel – as well as rejoining the line-up himself – in a bid to give the show a much-needed ratings boost.
The series was at its most successful when both Dannii and Cheryl were judges alongside Simon and Louis Walsh – whose future on the show currently remains uncertain.
And a source told the paper that the past history between Cheryl, Dannii and Simon could potentially make for explosive TV.
“The feeling is that 2010 was the show’s peak because it was the best possible judging line-up,” the source said, “and imagine the tension on that panel now.
“Dannii and Cheryl have lots of reasons to be furious with Simon for personal and professional reasons. But he’s a businessman. He knows it’ll make great viewing.”
The panel is set for a shake-up in 2014 after Gary Barlow confirmed his exit from the show, while Sharon Osbourne has made it clear she is on board for one series only.
Louis Walsh had previously said he would also be quitting at the end of the current series, but is reportedly re-considering his decision.
Cheryl quit the series in 2010 to join X Factor USA, but was dropped from that show after just four days of filming.
Dannii, meanwhile, left the show in 2011, and has since been seen on Britain’s Next Top Model as well as the Australian series of X Factor.
A show spokesperson said: “We are focusing on this year’s series. No decisions have been made thus far on the judging panel for next year.”
