Danny Mac storms to the top of the Strictly leaderboard ahead of next week’s live show in Blackpool

The celebrities battled for their place in next week's live show at Blackpool's prestigious Tower Ballroom, with Danny Mac and Oti Mabuse storming to the top of the leaderboard.

Former Hollyoaks star Danny Mac stormed to the top of the Strictly leaderboard in the last live show before the all-important round in Blackpool’s Tower Ballroom next week.

Danny and partner Oti Mabuse scored an impressive 38 points after performing a fast-paced Argentine Tango to Marvin Gaye’s soul classic ‘Heard It Through The Grapevine’.

Daisy Lowe and Aljaz Skorjanec were the first couple to take to the dance floor with a Salsa to Dee-Lite’s hit ‘Groove is in the Heart’.

The judges all praised the dance, with Len Goodman saying: “I was twitching and gyrating all the way through. You came out and you sold it. There was a little blunder but you danced through it.”

Craig Revel Horwood described the footwork as “haphazard”, but said he loved Daisy’s leg extensions, while Bruno Tonioli said he loved the “retro styling” of the routine.

The pair scored a total of 31 points.

Olympic long-jumper Greg Rutherford was next up with partner Natalie Clifton. The pair tackled the Paso Doble to ‘Tamacun’ by Rodrigo y Gabriela.

Bruno said: “So strong, so virile, you were leaping around like a triumphant stag having conquered new territories. You never give up and I love that. You lose the shaping. You can’t just become a mannequin. It was very good, you have to have that artistry but brilliant effort.”

Craig agreed, and said there was an “air of panic” about the dance which made it appear “a little bit stiff”. But the judge praised Greg’s stag leap as fantastic and described the dance as a “very powerful performance” overall.

Len Goodman said: “There was plenty of aggression, plenty of attack, it just lot a bit of finesse.”

Bruno said: “Strictly adorable, you two. The cutest couple in the land. Lovely, gorgeous, my darling.”

Craig said: “Fantastic movement around the floor. I really and truly loved it, gorgeous.”

Darcey said: “You kept in character throughout. You had a smooth serene quality throughout.”

Len said the dance was performed with maturity and was a “wonderful dance”.
