TV entertainer Darren Day has appeared in court charged with drink driving following an alleged incident in the early hours of Friday morning.

The 41-year-old – a former contestant on I’m A Celebrity…Get Me Out Of Here! faced six charges when he appeared at Edinburgh Crown Court.

These reportedly included careless driving, and failing to stop and report an accident in the city, in which he allegedly crashed his Mercedes.

He was also charged in connection with failing a preliminary breath test and also driving while over the limit, and is said to face a further charge of possessing an offensive weapon.

A warrant for the seizure of his vehicle was also granted by the court.

Day pleaded not guilty to all the charges against him and will stand trial in Edinburgh next month.

The entertainer sprang to fame on the BBC TV series Opportunity Knocks in the 1980s but more recently has been seen on a string of celebrity reality shows.

He finished sixth in the first series of I’m A Celebrity…and more recently appeared in the BBC’s Children In Need project Celebrity Scissorhands.

He was also due to take part in the Channel 4 show The Games in 2006 but was sacked after failing to turn up.
