Dave Myers exits Strictly Come Dancing ballroom

Dave Myers has missed out on the chance to dance at the Blackpool Tower Ballroom after becoming the latest celebrity to exit Strictly Come Dancing.

The Hairy Biker chef had previously managed to avoid the dreaded dance-off despite consistently finishing bottom of the judges’ scoreboard – but his luck ran out when he found himself up against Mark Benton and Iveta Lukosiute in the bottom two.

And while the pair ultimately split the judges – with Len admitting he would have opted to save Dave and partner Karen Hauer after they had both reprised their routines – his fate was sealed after Craig, Darcey and Bruno all voted in favour of Mark.

“I’d like to save the better mover, and the better mover in my opinion is Mark and Iveta,” said Craig Revel Horwood, while Darcey Bussell added: “I found it incredibly difficult to choose, because they both did a better performance and I’ve fallen in love with both of them, but it comes down to the couple, I choose Mark and Iveta.

Despite the disappointment of missing out on Blackpool, Dave appeared resigned to his fate, saying he had ‘loved every minute’ of his time on the show.

“I’ve met some wonderful friends, but everything is down to our Karen,” he said. The first dancing lesson is a bit like having your first driving lesson but they give you a Ferrari, so you’re bound to crunch the gears, but she’s still in one piece.

But I think with her and Kevin (Clifton), myself and my wife, we’ve just made the most wonderful friends. And you lot (judges) are alright as well,” he joked.

“The wonderful thing about Strictly, it’s democratic, the public have a say, the professionals have a say and everybody looks out for everybody else and I’ve loved every minute.”

Karen, meanwhile, fought back tears as she told him: “I love you. You’ve given everything and I thank you for that because every day you’ve given 100 per cent.”

Saturday night’s show saw Dave once again finish in last place for his Scottish-themed tango – which failed to impress the judges.

Len Goodman told him: “A bit of leg and a flash of knicker usually turns me on a bit but this didn’t at all,” while Bruno Tonioli commented: “It wasn’t danced, you have to dance it…you looked like a cramp!”

Eight other celebrities – including Abbey Clancy, Sophie Ellis-Bextor, Ashley Taylor Dawson, Ben Cohen and Fiona Fullerton all made it through to next weekend’s Blackpool show.

Natalie Gumede has been given a bye through to next weekend after being too unwell to dance on Saturday night.
