Ricky Gervais has confirmed that he’ll be returning as The Office’s cringey boss David Brent in a feature film, Life On The Road.
The sitcom character will be resurrected on the big screen by Ricky in a movie, set to begin filming in the UK in 2015.
“We find out what Brent is doing now and what’s happened in the last 15 years since his redundancy from his beloved Wernham Hogg,” a press release confirms. “He’s a sales rep now, selling cleaning products up and down the country, but has never really given up on his dream of being a rock star.”
“Brent is followed on his self-financed UK tour. He thinks it’ll be like Scorsese filming the Rolling Stones, but it turns out to be a ‘where are they now’ documentary. He has to take a few weeks off work and cash in a couple of pensions, because the session musicians in the band are costing him more than he’s getting in ticket sales. Tragic.”
David Brent was TV most awkward boss in BBC’s The Office for two series and two Christmas specials between 2001 and 2003.
Ricky, who wrote the series with Stephen Merchant, starred alongside the likes of Martin Freeman and Mackenzie Crook in the show. There’s no word yet whether their characters, Tim and Gareth, will appear in the film.
