David Walliams has leapt to the defence of his friend Sheridan Smith after it was announced she would take a four-week break from her show Funny Girl.
The actress is taking a leave of absence from the show for ‘stress and exhaustion’ and the Britain’s Got Talent judge, who appeared alongside her in A Midsummer Night’s Dream two years ago, has insisted she should be allowed to rest.

Speaking to Alex Jones and Matt Baker on The One Show, he said: “I feel a lot of compassion for Sheridan.
“I love Sheridan, she is like a sister to me.

“She is obviously going through a very serious issue with her family – in any other job you would be allowed some time off, wouldn’t you?
“I think she should definitely be allowed this time off.”

Matt added that the actress was ‘probably at home watching The One Show to take her mind off things and here we are talking about her’.
David added: “I’ve seen the show already, it’s fantastic. I’ve got tickets again and can’t wait to go again.”
