Couch Potato Pickings
On BBC1 tonight at 11.15pm
It was all the rage at the time of its release, winning a BAFTA for Best Film and an Oscar for Best Screenplay, as well as Best Actor, Best Director and Best Picture nominations in the Academy Awards. Since then though this film has fallen out of favour, and seems to be universally dismissed these days as mushy and mawkish.
There are certainly many other, and many better, inspirational teacher movies out there. Isn’t it strange how some films have a limited shelf life while others mature wonderfully like a fine wine?
