Death in Paradise will return next year
Death in Paradise will be back for an eighth series, with Ardal O’Hanlon again in the leading role as detective DI Jack Mooney.
Big audiences are currently enjoying the seventh series on BBC1, which sees relative newcomer Jack (Ardal O’Hanlon) solving crimes on the fictional island of Saint Marie with Florence (Josephine Jobert), Dwayne (Danny John-Jules) and JP (Tobi).
The high viewing figures – the first episode of the current series attracted over eight million fans – means it’s little surprise that the Beeb has decided to bring back the hit detective drama, which original starred Ben Miller as British cop Richard Poole alongside Sara Martins as DS Camille Bordey.
When Richard was murdered, DI Humphrey Goodman (Kris Marshall) took over leading detective duties, with his first case being investigating Richard’s death. When Kris Marshall left last year, Ardal came in as the island’s top detective. Death in Paradise continues tonight at 9pm on BBC1, with Green Wing actress Pippa Haywood among the guest stars.

Filming for series eight will once again take place on the French-Caribbean island of Guadeloupe, with the makers promising more “intriguing mysteries, cunning plot twists and a star-studded array of guest cast”.
Tommy Bulfin, BBC executive producer and drama commissioning editor for Northern Ireland, said: “Death in Paradise is a much loved gem in the BBC1 schedules and we are delighted to announce that it will be returning in 2019 for its eighth series.”
