Dermot O’Leary is to miss out on the job of US X Factor presenter – so that Cheryl Cole can join the show instead, according to the papers.
The News Of The World reports that Dermot – who presents the UK version of the show – will not get the chance to front the American version as Simon Cowell has decided to include only two people from the British show.
And he is said to be keen for Cheryl Cole to join him on the show as the second British representative – with reports suggesting that the mogul has lined up High School Musical duo Zac Efron and Vanessa Hudgens to present instead.
“He is a fan of Dermot and thinks he’s done a good job with the show in the UK,” a source said.
“But there could only be Simon and an absolute maximum of one other Brit on the show. He wants that Brit to be Cheryl.
“Dermot will be completely distraught. He spent months in American lobbying to get this job. He held out a lot of hope,” the insider added.
“But he can’t compete with Zac and Vanessa. They are two of the biggest stars in the States and will make American X Factor the biggest show in the world.”
Although no contracts have yet been signed for the show, Cheryl has reportedly been offered a £3m deal to appear.
“Simon is currently having to fight with American TV executives to get Cheryl on the show,” the insider said.
“She is not well known in the States. The same goes for Dermot, he is a brilliant presenter but nobody’s heard of him in the States.”
The acts in this year’s final will be known on Sunday night, when the results of the latest public vote are revealed.
