The wait is almost over for the new series of Doctor Who, which will see Jodie Whittaker becoming the Thirteenth Doctor.

And to get you in the mood before Doctor Who returns to our screens on BBC1 on Sunday 7th October, we’ve made a special video preview! The BBC has also just released a new official trailer!!

Jodie, who’s of course the first woman to tackle one of television’s most coveted roles, is not a stranger to the TV world, having starred in ITV mega crime blockbuster Broadchurch and she has of course been a doctor before on BBC1’s Trust Me!

The new Doctor Who team: Jodie Whittaker’s Time Lord and co are ready to take on the universe

From what we’ve seen so far we expect Jodie’s Time Lord to be upbeat and fun. Speaking about the role to Marie Claire, Jodie said: “I feel like I’ve been handed this amazing world and they’ve let me be like a kid in a toy shop and go off with it.

“Doctor Who wasn’t something that was on TV in my house when I was growing up, so I thought I’d have to cane it before the first audition and watch every single episode.

“Thankfully, Chris [Chibnall, the producer] said, ‘I don’t want you to. I want you to come in with fresh eyes and bring what you would do in this environment.’”

Of course, Jodie (above in the new official Doctor Who trailer) won’t be travelling through time and space alone. She’ll have three companions – Ryan Sinclair (played by Tosin Cole, who’s been in EastEnders spin-off E20 and Hollyoaks), Graham O’Brien (The Chase host Bradley Walsh) and Yasmin Khan (Mandip Gill, whose first acting role was in Hollyoaks).

On winning the role, Bradley said: “I remember watching William Hartnell as the first Doctor. Black and white made it very scary for a youngster like myself.”

Chris Chibnall, who worked with Jodie on Broadchurch, is the new boss. And it’s going to be thrilling to see what direction he takes the show in and which new monsters he’s going to introduce. It’s been reported that the Daleks and the Cybermen won’t be back in the new series, but you never know, this could be a red herring!

Expect the unexpected when Doctor Who returns on October 7.
