A new picture shows the long red hair and pale skin of Doctor Who’s assistant Amy Pond have well and truly gone. Karen Gillan has gone bald and turned blue for her new role as alien warrior Nebula in a new Hollywood film…
The bad girl extra-terrestrial features in Guardians of the Galaxy, which is released in the UK on August 1 and also stars Bradley Cooper, Zoe Saldana and Chris Pratt. Unlike squeaky clean Amy Pond in Doctor Who, Nebula is an evil space pirate who spends much of her time trying to wipe out entire civilisations.
Karen had no qualms going bald for this big Hollywood role, as she recently told Metro: “The day they cut my hair off, everyone was creeping around, being extra complimentary, because they’d all been briefed they might have a sobbing actress on their hands. I fell asleep in the chair and woke up two hours later with no hair. It was hilarious.”
She was also put on a four-month daily workout regime, plus two months of fight training, and Karen’s diet was totally overhauled. She cut out bread and dairy products, which were replaced with protein.
“They wanted me to bulk up,” she said. “But I actually ended up losing weight. I’m eating more but it’s the right sort of food. I feel strong, healthy and empowered so I’ll be keeping it up.”
