X Factor host Dermot O’Leary wants to put himself forward for the new American version of the show.

The chummy Brit fancies heading Stateside to play master of ceremonies on Simon Cowell’s highly anticipated US X Factor.

He told Grazia magazine: “It’s all in limbo at the moment – I definitely want a shot at it, but I want them to want me to do it.

“I’m not going to beg for it. I don’t want to get the job because they want a Brit. I want to get the job because I’m the best person for the job.”

Dermot also revealed that he had been working hard with Simon Cowell to ensure that the new UK series of the show is the ‘best ever’.

“Simon’s stripping it back to a challenge show and I love that. I get texts [from him] at 2am saying things like, ‘Thought how we can change something…’, and [I’m] like, ‘I’m in bed. I’ll see you in eight hours!'” he told The News Of The World. “I’m not interested in having an easy ride. It’s the biggest show on television. You want to push yourself.”
