Cage isn’t at his most manic this time (more’s the pity) but he still burns up the road as an avenger who has escaped from the afterlife to rescue his infant granddaughter from a bloodthirsty satanic cult.
Cage’s Milton has three days before the cult sacrifices the baby beneath the full moon, but nothing will stop his mission – not even the relentless pursuit of a bounty hunter from hell, William Fichtner’s slickly dressed, scarily ruthless, deadpan-funny ‘The Accountant’.
Wearing a pair of cut-off denim shorts that would look skimpy on Daisy Duke, Amber Heard’s sassy waitress is on board too, but director Patrick Lussier barely lets his foot ease off the accelerator as the film barrels along to its fiery climax. The 3D effects are surprisingly nifty too, making Drive Angry a fun ride, if you don’t get (car-)sick from the gore.
On general release from 28 February.
