Thursday next week will unusually see two episodes of EastEnders

EastEnders viewers are in for a New Year treat next week as the hit soap is on five times instead of its normal four.

While Emmerdale and Coronation Street fans are normally treated to six episodes a week of their favourite soap, EastEnders viewers only get four.

However, next week the show is on five times. EastEnders will go out on New Year’s Eve at 8.00pm, there’s then an hour-long special on New Year’s Day at 8.00pm, no episode on Wednesday, then two episodes on Thursday at 7.30pm and 8.30pm, and finally a Friday episode at 8.00pm.

A big focus will be on Mel and Ray’s wedding. Mel is set on a revenge plan, but it all goes wrong and builds up to a terrifying showdown in the woods.

EastEnders - Mel and Ray in their wedding gear

Bride and doom! Mel has revenge on her mind…

Speaking about the dramatic scenes to go out next week, Tamzin Outhwaite, who plays Mel, told us:

“So the wedding is a big wedding in a church, I can say that. Mel’s ex husband Ian Beale is there and Jack is there, who proposed to her, so there’s a lot of history in that one place.

“But I can’t go into details about the woods other than to say it felt dangerous and that when we were doing it I was scared!”

When we asked her whether there’ll be a body in the woods, she replied:”“Who knows? What I can say is it’s not quick and it’s also not over! But it’s like a horror, it’s like the darker side of EastEnders. I mean, I’m not sure I’d want my children to watch it if you know what I mean. But I’m all up for the darkness! Also the filmic way this was done is some of my favourite times in EastEnders.”

Don’t miss EastEnders next week! Episodes go out on New Year’s Eve at 8.00pm, an hour-long special on New Year’s Day at 8.00pm, no episode Wednesday,  two episodes on Thursday at 7.30pm and 8.30pm, and a Friday episode at 8.00pm.
