EastEnders fans are thrilled after the soap pays tribute to Pauline Fowler during Cora Cross's fight with daughter Rainie Branning.
Last night’s trip to Walford saw Max and Rainie’s fight for custody of baby Abi take a drastically dark turn as things got violent between Rainie and mum, Cora.
After their fight in The Vic turned nasty, things were said that should have stayed unspoken. But when Rainie later went to the Beales to say sorry to her mum, things took a nasty turn when Cora refused to listen to her daughter’s apologies.
As Rainie went to sit down so that the pair could calmly talk through their problems, Cora had another way of dealing with the situation and instead whacked her daughter over the back of her head with a frying pan.
With Rainie out cold on the floor, Max was left holding baby Abi, while Ian arrived back home to find the aftermath of Cora’s outburst.
But while the shocking attack from Cora left EastEnders fans horrified, they also loved it because of the nod it gave to EastEnders legend, Pauline Fowler.
Pauline attacked downtrodden husband Arthur with a frying pan in the exact same spot after discovering his affair with mistress Christine Hewitt back in the early 90s.
Fans took to Twitter to share how much they were loving Cora’s reenactment of Pauline’s iconic moment…
But that wasn’t the end of the drama for the evening. After Max made a hasty getaway with baby Abi (leaving his battered wife out sold on the floor, we might add!) he fled to the other side of the Square, desperate to gather his granddaughter’s belongings.
But before he could make an escape with the baby, the police arrived to take Abi into care. Could this latest family ruckus mean that no one will be getting custody of the child?
EastEnders airs Monday and Friday at 8pm and Tuesday and Thursday at 7.30pm on BBC1.
