Did you miss Thursday’s episode?
EastEnders has suffered its lowest ratings in its 34-year history after Thursday’s schedule change saw viewers accidentally miss the episode.
The usual 7.30pm timeslot had been brought forward by 30 minutes in order for BBC1 to show the Women’s World Cup quarter-final against Norway.
The match was originally due to be shown on BBC Four, but the last minute schedule change meant many viewers missed the earlier 7pm timeslot, causing ratings to drop to just 2.4million.
“The BBC has always prided itself on the enduring success of EastEnders but its popularity has slowly drooped over the past year,’ a source told The Sun.
“The ratings on Thursday were embarrassing, especially given in its heyday EastEnders would get over eight million.”
Many viewers were devastated at missing the latest episode; with some discovering the usual instalment had been moved when they tuned in, only to discover the football was being aired in its place.
One fan said: “No #EastEnders because of sport, why can’t they put sport on specialised channels?”
Another moaned: “#Eastenders Thank you for informing us eastenders was on early today. I missed it #Gutted.”
EastEnders has been moving around the schedules a lot recently due to the Women’s World Cup.
However, EastEnders fans have had it easy compared to Holby City viewers.
Next week Holby isn’t on at all as the BBC is showing the first Women’s World Cup semi-final on Tuesday instead.
Holby fans were aghast last week when the show was moved to a different day due to the Beeb screening the Tory leadership debate.
And the schedule changes might not be over as Wimbledon begins next week!
