Former Emmerdale actress Kelsey-Beth Crossley was among those who crashed out of The Voice UK on Saturday night as the battle rounds kicked off.
The 21-year-old – who played Scarlett Nicholls on the ITV soap from 2007-2012 – had been tipped as a potential contender when she joined Ricky Wilson’s team during the blind auditions.
However she proved unable to see off competition from fellow competitor Emily Adams as they went head to head on a duet of Christina Aguilera’s Fighter.
And Kelsey-Beth was left fighting back tears as Ricky chose her rival to go through to the live shows – and failed to convince any of the other coaches to ‘steal’ her for their team.
“I’ve got so much more to give because it wasn’t really my song,” she said in a bid to persuade them. “For that song I couldn’t really compete with her I don’t think.”
There was better news on Saturday night’s show for former Streets singer Leo Ihenacho and R&B singer Bizzi Dixon, both of whom made it through to the knockout heats.
Bizzi kept his place on Team Tom Jones following an epic duet with fellow singer Kenny Thompson which Will.i.am described as ‘one of the best battle rounds I’ve ever seen on the series’.
Meanwhile Leo beat restaurant manager Steven Alexander in his heat, keeping his place on Team Kylie – but there was good news for Steven also when he was poached by Tom Jones for his team.
Others to make it through on Saturday night included Christina Marie and Beth McCarthy on Ricky’s team, with Callum Crowley, Jermain Jackman and Anna McLuckie were saved on Team Will.i.am.
Kylie also saved Lee Glasson and Jai McConnell in their rounds, while Sally Barker and Celestine made it through for Team Tom Jones.
It wasn’t all bad news for the losers though, with Jessica Steele being poached by Ricky Wilson after losing her spot on Will’s team and South African singer Nomakhosi joining Team Will after losing out on Kylie’s team.
The second stage of The Voice‘s battle rounds will continue next Saturday night.
