Emu – the puppet Michael Parkinson referred to as ‘that bloody bird’ – is to make a return to TV in October.

Emu, formerly an appendage of the late Rod Hull, is to appear in a new children’s series on CITV and ITV1.

Emu is best known for his appearance on Parkinson’s chat show in the 1970s – he continually attacked Parky until the host fell off his chair, a scene that has hovered over his career like an albatross.

He also ate the Queen Mother’s bouquet at the Royal Variety Performance in 1972.

And it appears that Emu’s aggressive tendencies will continue in the series which premieres on CITV on Monday, October 8…
