Miracle footballer Fabrice Muamba is set to take to the dancefloor for the Christmas special of Strictly Come Dancing, joining a starry line-up which will also include a string of previous contestants.

The former Bolton Wanderers midfielder – who miraculously came back from the dead after suffering a heart attack during a match earlier this year – has joined the line-up just weeks after saying he would love to be a part of the show.

“I’d do Strictly Come Dancing,” he said, after revealing he had already turned down an offer to appear on Dancing On Ice. “I love my salsa, so I’d be well up for that.”

Fabrice – who has already begun training for the show – will partner Aliona Vilani, who won the 2011 series with Harry Judd but missed out this year after breaking her ankle during rehearsals with Johnny Ball, and returning to the dancefloor only after he was eliminated.

The 24-year-old technically ‘died’ for 78 minutes after collapsing on the pitch during the clash with Tottenham Hotspur, but was revived after being given repeated shocks from a defibrillator.

He has since had a pacemaker fitted and retired from professional football, although has been allowed to take part in short sessions of play, including one with a group of youngsters for Children In Need.

Others set to take part in the Strictly Christmas special include JLS singer JB Gill, as well as a host of previous winners and contestants, among them Kelly Brook, Rachel Stevens, Chelsee Healey, Natasha Kaplinsky and Chris Hollins.

The full line-up will be revealed over the next couple of weeks.
