Favourite Bobby Lockwood‘s future in BBC gymnastics show Tumble is in the balance after a nasty knee injury which led to a hospital dash.
The actor, who stars in children’s drama Wolf Blood, topped the leader board for the celebrity gym contest after last week’s semi-final. But he now has to consult medics about whether or not he can take part in Saturday night’s climax to the series after straining ligaments and being left in agony with knee pain.
Bobby landed awkwardly as he practised a somersault in training for this week’s routine and had to be rushed to an accident & emergency unit. After being seen by doctors he was given an MRI scan and it was found the jarring landing had left him with bruising around a bone in his left knee and strain to a cruciate ligament.
It is the second knee injury to hit the show, with TV fitness guru Mr Motivator ruled out of Tumble before it even launched. He was left facing surgery after dislocating his knee during a vault which went wrong.
A Tumble insider said: “Bobby’s knee is extremely painful, swollen and covered in icepacks. He has been advised to rest today and will be assessed again in the morning to make a decision on whether his knee has improved enough to allow him to participate in Saturday’s Tumble final. He is desperate to make it through to tomorrow night having spent three months in the training room.”
Bobby is favourite with bookmaker William Hill at a price of 8/13, with former Steps star Ian H Watkins second most-fancied. Also competing in tomorrow’s final are Amelle Berrabah, Carl Froch, Sarah Harding and Lucy Mecklenburgh.
Former Blue Peter presenter Peter Duncan was eliminated last week by chief judge Nadia Comaneci after he found himself in the vault against Froch. The final is screened at 6pm on BBC1.
