Film review | Stolen – One last heist for ex-con Nicolas Cage to rescue his kidnapped daughter

Stolen - Nicolas Cage

Nicolas Cage re-teams with Con-Air director Simon West for Stolen, a hectic action thriller about an ex-con who must pull off one last heist to rescue his estranged 15-year-old daughter from kidnap by his vengeful former partner in crime. Cage works up a sweat dashing about New Orleans on Mardi Gras Day, trying to raise the ransom money while evading Danny Huston’s vigilant cop, but it’s Josh Lucas, not Cage, who delivers the film’s most OTT turn as the kidnapper, a straggle-haired, one-legged, taxi-driving psycho. The film’s thrills and spills, though, are all too routine; and when it comes to stop-at-nothing heroics Cage certainly can’t match Liam Neeson’s rescuer dad in the Taken films.

Released on Blu-ray, DVD and Download by Lions Gate Home Entertainment on Monday 5th August.
