Filming has begun on the third series of E4’s hit sitcom The Inbetweeners, Channel 4 has announced.

Cast regulars Simon Bird, James Buckley, Blake Harrison and Joe Thomas will return as misfit teens Will, Jay, Neil and Simon, when the new series screens later this year.

The series also sees the return of Greg Davies (Mr. Gilbert), Emily Head (Carli) and Emily Atack (Charlotte), who recently appeared on the ITV1 reality show Dancing on Ice.

Shane Allen, head of comedy at C4, said: “The Inbetweeners series have gone from strength to strength and the scripts for series 3 are masterpieces of teenage excruciation. New lows have been plumbed in brilliantly inventive ways.”

Last summer, it was reported that star James Buckley (Jay) only discovered the show was getting a third series when a fan sent a message to congratulate him on Twitter.

James wrote: “Where has Inbetweeners 3 been announced? Genuinely haven’t been told, sending a few text messages to see if there really is a third series.”

He later added: “Green light on series three, just didn’t get round to telling us boys! Gonna have celebratory Coco Pops.”

The second series recieved a Bafta nomination and two British Comedy Awards.
