Filming has begun on the second series of hit BBC One drama Last Tango in Halifax, with Derek Jacobi and Anne Reid returning as lovestruck OAPs Alan and Celia.
Sarah Lancashire, Nicola Walker (Spooks), Tony Gardner (The Thick of It), Dean Andrews (Life on Mars) and Ronni Ancona will also be back for the six-part drama.
Writer Sally Wainwright, who won a BAFTA writing award, said: “The inspiration for Last Tango in Halifax was deeply personal so I am delighted that it also resonated with so many viewers – both young and old. The second series will bring even more dramatic twists, trials and tribulations for the characters with Alan and Celia’s love story continuing to be the beating heart of the series.”
Last Tango in Halifax won the Best Drama Series award at this year’s BAFTAs and was the BBC’s highest rating new mid-week drama of 2012, regularly attracting more than seven million viewers.
The second series, currently filming in various locations around the north of England, picks up with Alan (Jacobi) having suffered a serious heart attack and the couple’s nuptials hanging in the balance. Will Celia once again lose the love of her life?
