After just three months in the job, Channel Five’s programmes boss Jay Hunt has quit to take on the big challenge of controller of BBC One.

Ms Hunt was previously controller of BBC Daytime, but moved to Five in Sepember.

Just recently she told the Media Guardian website: “I have categorically not applied to be the controller of BBC1. It is one of the best jobs in the industry, but I have accepted a fantastic job at Five.”

However, on Monday she said: “I could not resist the opportunity to take on such a creatively exciting role… I am thrilled to be part of the channel’s future.

She added that she ‘could not turn down the best job in television’.

Ms Hunt will fill the post left by Peter Fincham, who quit in October following the scandal over a faked edit which suggested the Queen had angrily stormed out of a photo-shoot.
